QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Frequently asked questions.

Everything you need to know about
membership, eligibility, and privacy.

Can I register with my personal email?

Yes. Use a personal or work address to create your account, then confirm your sign-in email. Membership verification comes afterwards: use an eligible work email inbox or choose a private review. A work email is optional.

Who is RA Commons for?

Research Associates, Research Assistants and Research Analysts, including senior roles, pre-docs and young researchers in similar roles worldwide. Membership is reviewed against the community’s research-role eligibility.

What if my organization isn’t listed?

You can request your organization after confirming your work email inbox, or choose private membership review. New organizations need platform-admin approval. Confirming an inbox alone does not grant community access.

How long does private membership review take?

Private reviews usually take a few days. If you haven’t heard back within a week, email [email protected]. This is an estimate, not a guaranteed deadline. You can prepare your profile while waiting; community content stays unavailable until approval.

Do I have to join an organization room?

No. Joining a room is optional. Eligible members can join their matching room; other access requests need review. Room posts stay private to authorized room members.

How are organization rooms led?

A room becomes available when two approved members qualify through matching confirmed organization work domains. Joining is optional afterwards. A willing steward accepts a nomination, then another approved room member confirms the appointment. Rooms are independent of employer management.

What does private access mean?

Community content requires authorized access. Members can still copy or screenshot it, and authorized platform administrators may access stored content, including messages. Chat is not end-to-end encrypted. Do not share employer secrets, confidential research or identifiable participant data.

Is RA Commons affiliated with employers?

No. RA Commons is independent of employers and university administrations. It is not an official workplace channel. Organization rooms are led by members and independent of organization management.
